The women’s sport, with increasing development in our country and attracting more and more attention of media, has become an indispensable important part of media report. However, how to play the driving affect of media on the development of women’s sports to promote the common development of men and women’s sports in our country is an important issue to be solved at present. Taking the perspective of critical discourse analysis and combining the social gender theory, the topic of this paper analyzes the textual discourse about women’s sports in Sports News in recent five years from 2010 to 2014, which aims at promoting the development of women’s sports in our country and of Sports News. At the same time, this paper will also offer theoretical reference for the study of women’s sports and sport media and will help the public know and understand the women’s and women’s sports well. This paper mainly uses the literature material method, content analysis, logic analysis, mathematical statistics and other research methods. In these five years from 2010 to 2014, the reports of the magazine New Sport totals of 2966, but those about women’s sports are 508 which are taken as the research objects. First of all, this paper carries on the statistics and analysis of the discourse of women’s sports coverage from the layouts, report forms and pictures. Second, it analyzes the discourse of women’s sports from the nicknames, titles, descriptions and other specific discourse. Finally, it analyzes the discourse content from aesthetic standard, traditional idea and unyielding spirit.Through the analysis, it is found that the problems existed in the reports about women’s sports in the magazine New Sports in the five years from 2010 to 2014 are as follows. First, reports about women’s sports are not only significantly less than those of men, but are not perfect and comprehensive enough as well, which will hinder the public to know the women’s and women’s sports well. Second, the words about women’s sports make the traditional female idea prominent features and mix with male ideology in the representation of women’s sports. Third, the image of women’s sports is taken men’s aesthetics as standard. The appearance, figure, dress of the female athletes are often discussed and the women’s are placed in a position of “be looked”, “be reviewed” and “be watched”. All of these will not only make the female images fall into the gender bias, but also make the men’s aesthetics become dominant. Fourth, female sports coverage has affected by the stereotype, stressing the rigid cognition about the women’s status, role and behavior and women’s sports, which will go against the development of women’s sports. On the basis of the above research and combined with the problems mentioned above, this paper puts forward four suggestions as follows: first, improve the quantity and quality of the women’s sports coverage to meet the needs of audience and readers; second, change the traditional concept of women’s sports coverage; third, pay attention to the diversity on the aesthetic standard of women’s sports; fourth, avoid the stereotype in women’s sports coverage.
