Soil,acknowledged as cornerstone for human being, plays an essential role for the safety of majority of food resource for humans. With the continuous development of industrialization, soil pollution problem is increasingly serious in our country. The pollution has turned from an explicit environmental problem to an implicit one.The thesis is based on the newspaper reports about soil pollution in our country, selecting reports about soil pollution on newspaper from January1st to December31st,2013as research objects(sum to746pieces), trying to analyze the report form, content and existing problem and put forward improvement strategy correspondingly.Soil pollution issues in newspaper reports showed the characteristics of the imbalance as a whole. About quantity, hot events impact greatly on the amount of reports. Meanwhile, among different economy regions, levels and characters, different media showed different enthusiasm on soil pollution issues. Specifically, provincial media showed most interested in soil pollution issues, the reporting frequency on party-controlled newspaper are higher than urban newspaper. Imbalance is also embodied in reporting topic, variety as though, there was uneven distribution of the number of report topics. In addition, news genre takes a lion’s share, and they mainly relied on official sources.Characteristics of newspaper soil pollution story are as followed:the media agenda-setting function is prominent; the layers of news fact reporting are rich; issues attention has promoted; scientific knowledge popularization is deep and the flexible use of digital improve the accuracy of the article.In newspaper soil pollution reports, the discourse rights among government, experts, enterprises, NGOs and the public are unequal. The government is in dominant position, experts and scientists take positive part in issue report yet enterprises try to avoid soil pollution emergencies, comparing with the former three strong objects, environment-prevent NGOs and the public are relatively weak.The function of the newspapers soil pollution reports in China mainly for broadcast environment information, improve the ability of public risk warning and for strengthen government supervision, promote the development of environmental policy. The reports have following defects:too many fragmentary reports and inadequate features; discourse rights of different interest groups are imbalanced, the public is too weak; reporters and editors are not professional in environmental topics.Improvement could start with the following thoughts:adopting more features in reporting to raise the depth of reports; actively cooperate with the government to assist them to change environment management ideas; the media industry should strengthen the editorial talent reserves of professional knowledge, improve their professional accomplishment.
