Wireless Sensor Networks is a self-organizing network composed of a large number of energy-limited sensor nodes. Wireless sensor networks often operate in harsh environments and need data retransmission due to interference or fading wireless link, which result in reducing performance of the existing clustering protocol. In this case the existing clustering protocol may not be able to achieve the purpose of saving energy and prolonging lifetime of a network. Therefore how to transmit data successful and decrease extra energy consumption on the unstable wireless link is worthy of our research. In addition, the redundancy is inevitable between in nodes because of the large amount of wireless sensor network node.So how to make use of the redundancy to improve the nodes’ availability in monitoring regional of as high as possible also is this paper’s focus. This paper mainly discusses two parts mentioned above.Firstly, this paper makes a holistis discussion of wireless sensor network, including the architecture of the wireless sensor networks, nodes and protocol. Then, some specific characteristics and wide applications on WSN are introduced; Finally, this paper discusses several typical routing protocols, and their performance are compared and analyzed.Secondly, this paper proposes a LEACH protocol based on the measurement of packet loss rate, which focus on the loss model of wireless link channel. The paper mainly selects GE model as the wireless link loss model and simulates a case where the packets may be lost because of the interference from environmental factors by setting wireless link channel model.Under these conditions, the protocol improves the efficiency of data transmission successfully and reduces the extra energy consumption because of data retransmission by selecting a low packet loss node as head node, aiming to save energy and improve data transmission’s efficiency. The results of NS2 simulation and analysis show that the measurement based on packet loss rate of LEACH- LLR protocol in data transmission’s efficiency and energy saving is better than LEACH protocol. Finally, this paper presents a LEACH-N protocol based on coverage as performance evaluation, which is to study for redundancy and network coverage between nodes. The agreement mainly select the node which has more neighboring nodes as cluster head node, representing it has a high redundancy.Cluster head node is usually easy to die out which is inevitable. It selects the node whose neighboring nodes are more as cluster head node to improve the availability and save energy.Meanwhile,in orde to resrarch the redundancy in nodes, this paper also propose the definition of network coverage,by which the redundant nodes are analyzed and evaluated. The results of simulation and analysis show that, under the network node density that is larger, the LEACH-N protocol can improve the utilization efficiency of nodes; also it proved that the coverage is capable of analysising and assessing the redundancy in nodes, and so as to prove the feasibility of LEACH-N protocol.
