It is one of the most urgent and realistic livelihood projects to realize the water supply of urban-rural integration and to ensure the safety of drinking water. Restricted by terrain and economic conditions, water supply facilities in rural areas are always in a small scale, scattered and of low standards. In order to solve the above problems, a high integrity and long distance water quality monitoring system is designed for water supply networks, especially for the networks in rural areas.The designed system is consisted of a semi-buried supervisory box which is on welding of 304 stainless steel. One internal flow metter, one pressure sensor, a multi-channel data acquisition module and a self-designed turbidity measuring module are inside the box with some expansion joints,check valves and globe valves. The main function of the system is the implementation of data acquisition and GPRS transmission, which is able to detect the water pressure,flow,turbidity and any other water quality parameters. This system is easy to construct and cost-effective, on the other hand, it can improve the management level,which is of essential guiding significance for the expantion of water supply monitoring networks in rural areas.First, this thesis introduce the research background and the research status at home and abroad. Then, the working principles are introduced, as well as the overall design and mechanical design. Hense, the designed system is devided into five parts, the multi-channel data acquisition module, the turbidity measurement module, the power supply module, the communication module and the wireless data transmission module. Both the hardware and software design are introduced for the system. Finally, we have compelted the test work of the system, the results shows that the repeatability error for the water pressure and flow are within 2%o. Moreover, the self-designed turbidity measuring module which is desiged with modulated light source and dule-path optical system, its measuring accuracy and repeatability error are within 2% and 5‰ separately, which meet the standards at home and abroad.
