With the progress of science and technology, people’s living standards have been improved significantly. In order to access to information more conveniently and quickly, the wireless sensor network (WSN) technology is made in-depth study by human beings. Thus, a number of advanced WSN technologies emerge naturally, ZigBee in particular.ZigBee technology has been a hot research since its birth. It is rapidly applied in various fields due to its low-power consumption, low cost, low complexity and other characteristics. But on account of the special application environment of ZigBee nodes, its terminal nodes are generally battery-powered. Hence, the energy consumption of nodes has become a key obstacle in its rapid promotion. Therefore, the low-power research and design of ZigBee nodes are of important significance.This paper firstly introduces the technological features of ZigBee, and then compares with other wireless communication technologies, and briefly describes the composition of ZigBee protocol stack. Power consumption distribution of nodes are analyzed, and on this basis, several possible low-power design methods are proposed in terms of hardware and software; then low-power components are adopted in the hardware design, and a modular design is made for ZigBee nodes so that each module has a design scheme. ZigBee module is given individual design. The floor composed by ZigBee module and other modules is connected through stamp interface, which facilitates the upgrade, promotion and application of modules, and reduces the design difficulty of subsequent development for hardware. Several low-power consumption strategies are introduced in software design, and software design is conducted on the basis of Z-Stack protocol stack. The low-power consumption design is implemented by increasing sleep time and reducing data traffic, and on this basis, the nodal power consumption is further reduced by adjusting the transmission power; finally, performance testing and functional testing of nodes are made, and ZigBee network is developed to compare test, observe ZigBee node and record node information. It is shown from the test results that ZigBee nodes enjoy low power consumption, good communication performance and strong anti-interference ability, meeting the requirements for long online time and practical engineering application.
