With the development of society, the effect of the media has been deeply affected each group and the individual social practice. Both the market operations of the enterprise and the publicity of national mainstream value are inseparable from the media. Within the category of media events, media goes deep into the interior of the incident with events occurring at the same time in the form of grand narrative. There are not only economic purposes but also political intentions as well as some cultural connotations. On these bases, the media has become the effective tool for the integration of society to some extent. However, with the development of the Internet, the organizers’definitions of media events are often difficult to reach the prospective effect. What’s more, the audiences’ feedback is becoming more and more unexpected. Therefore, the research of media events requires both the new media background and the new examples to rely on.The author believes that the operation of media events is not an isolated system, but there are full of real-time interaction and game playing in the media events both inside and outside. As a result, the media events present a diverse media landscape and social effect. On this basis, the media events have become the field just like what Pierre Bourdieu said. This article investigates the competition and operation of media events systematically from the angle of field theory. According to the requirements of field theory methodology of Pierre Bourdieu and the particularity of media events, the full text can be mainly divided into four chapters:The first chapter is the introduction. It mainly consists of the research origin, the research significance, theoretical basis, the definition of the core concepts, the related literature review, research questions and thesis framework and research methods. In the second chapter and the third chapter, the author studies systematically the media events with the field theory methodology of Pierre Bourdieu. In order to increase the pertinence and scientificalness of the dissertation, first of all, this article defines the media events from both inside and outside with the filed type in the second chapter. It contains both the three internal conditions if we regard the media events as the field and the structural relations between field of media events and other social subsidiary fields. This article also discusses the competitions and practices of media events in detail by analyzing the cases with the field theory in the third chapter. This chapter mainly elaborates the process of the media events’ competition and operation from three angles:first, the angle of the relationship between the actors’power, that is, who takes part in the competition; second, the angle of the competition of the actors’capital amount which means the method and purpose of the competitors; third, the angle of the power application strategy that the actors engage together, that is, the logic of competition.Bourdieu’s field theory indeed provides a new research paradigm to study media events. In order to clarify the media events as a field of autonomy, based on the systematical analysis by means of field methodology in the second and third chapter, the forth chapter will discusses emphatically the similarities and differences between the media events as a field and media field.
