With the development of Internet technology and social changes,the role of media has profoundly influenced social practices.As early as in the 1980 s,Daniel Dayan and Elihu Katz introduced the concept of "media event".In the present time,"media event" is a kind of "absent presence" that breaks through time and space and becomes a link to people and a powerful tool to integrate society.Therefore,it is necessary to re-examine the understanding of "media events" in the new media context.This study focuses on the construction and dissemination practices of media events in the new media context through the construction and dissemination of the "Beijing Winter Olympics" on the People’s Daily microblog.Specifically,we analyze whether the discursive consensus of "media events" pre-constructed by traditional media still has consensus-gathering effect in the new media platform.If the assertion of "consensus building effectiveness" can still be supported,what are the mechanisms that create this sharing and consensus? This paper uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods to analyze the coverage of the Beijing Winter Olympics on the People’s Daily microblog,and thus summarizes the operational logic and factors influencing the construction and dissemination of media events.The study finds that in the new media era,the construction and dissemination of media events tend to constitute an "interpretive community" in which three parties negotiate and conspire,and the game of various forces becomes balanced,but the mainstream media still plays a dominant role in media events;the "Beijing Winter Olympic Games In the "Beijing Winter Olympics" field,there is a positive and significant correlation between audience comments and original reports,and between comments and original report emotions.In the process of constructing and disseminating the "Beijing Winter Olympics",the People’s Daily micro-blogs fit the audience’s habits,accumulate and transform capital,and occupy the dominant position in the field.At the same time,the "Beijing Winter Olympics" on the microblog of People’s Daily interacts with other social domains and influences other domains,and continues to develop and improve through the interaction with various domains.Finally,we take this as the starting point to analyze the triple changes that the media event field has undergone in the new media era: discourse reconstruction,spatio-temporal reconstruction and contextual innovation.
