With the development of computer information technology, mangy enterprises adopt many automated unit techniques in the design and development process of product such as CAD,CAE,CAM,in order to improve the product design level. While raising efficiency, these unit techniques lead to other difficult issues that data can not be shared and communicate hard. Thus PDM technology came to being. It is used to effectively manage the product-related information and process in the product life cycle. The key to the successful implementation of PDM system is to establish a comprehensive product information model. Therefore, starting from researching the unified model, this paper proposes a new PDM technology integrating AMFB model (A Model with Four Bodies) for building a unified information platform of the product design and manufacture in the enterprise.The research is based on’the theoretical methodology of project and product design’, being the National Natural Science Foundation (60635020) project. Firstly, this paper elaborates the basic concepts, development, situation and trend of the PDM technology, analyses the problems in the information integration and indicates that the important role of PDM in the information integration. Secondly, based on the in-depth analysis of PDM theory, this paper studies the system architecture and basic function of PDM, and the AMFB product information model structure system which integrates basic body, retrieval body, control body and intelligent body proposed by author’s team. Thirdly, the framework of the new PDM system is proposed, and research of data management and process management of the new PDM system is fulfilled. Fourthly, the architecture of PDM system based on SOA technology is proposed, and the PDM prototype system is developed adopting the object-oriented and software engineering. Finally, this paper does a comparative analysis between mainstream PDM system and DI_PDM in architecture, information model, process model and functional modules. Result shows, the DI_PDM system has a major advantage in the information model and process model.The research in this paper is significant in theoretical and practical application for the information integration and reuse.
