Since the1990s, represented by the Internet, information and communication technologies (ICTs) have experienced a rapid development around the world. Information and communication equipments not only have become the necessities in the modern world, but also have penetrated into almost all aspects of people’s daily life. The arrival of Information age and its development not only has influenced socio-economic structure, but also brought a series of changes on people’s time-space activities. With the soaring popularity of online social network such as Sina micro-blog (the most influential social networking platform in China) and the LBS checking-in application, the checking-in data which record users’time-space activities and undoubtedly provide a real-time data for the study of urban activity spatial structure.Since China’s reform and opening, the cities have experienced a profound change in terms of society, economy, and space, along with the reform of land system, financial system and housing system. Nowadays, China’s urban space is still in the phase of reconstruction, which will affect the urban spatial structure and thus the urban activity space. While with the development of globalization and informationization, especially the mobile information and communication technologies have accelerated the changes of people’s daily life, which will affect the urban activity space and thus affect the urban spatial structure. Based on this understanding, this paper tries to using the LBS big data in Sina micro-blog to study the urban space from the perspective of residents’real activities. This will not only rich and extend the existing urban space research methods, but also better interpret the ICTs’influence in urban spatial structure since these micro-blog users are usually the enthusiasts of ICTs and the use ICTs the most, which will offer a positive and effective guidance on the urban socio-economy development and the urban spatial structure optimization. This paper (1) analyzes the overall characteristics and dynamics changes of urban activity space, and its formation mechanism from the three perspectives of time and activity, activity and space, time and space;(2) builds, identifies the elements of urban activity space base on people’s activity and analyzes the urban activity spatial structure;(3) through the comparison of urban activity spatial structure and the current urban spatial structure (measured by urban residents, land use, etc.), analyzes the ICTs’ influence on people’s activity and thus on urban spatial structure in the Information age from the perspective of urban hierarchy, relationship of activity and land use, space in flow, and function zoning. This paper is divided into six chapters as following,Chapter One:introduction. This chapter includes research background, research significance, related concepts, research objects and scope, research methods and framework. Through this basic introduction, it points out the feasibility and particularity of this study.Chapter Two:related research progress at home and abroad. Through the summarization of related research on urban activity space, ICTs’ influence on people’s daily life, and the Big Data, this chapter points out the analysis system including the elements of people’s activity, time and space.Chapter Three:data collection and processing. This chapter includes the detailed data collection, data framework, and data extraction and classification.Chapter Four:analysis of urban residents’ time-space activity. This chapter analyzes the rule of people’s activity time, the overall characteristics and dynamic changes of urban activity space and its formation mechanism, and then puts forward the urban activity spatial structure including activity paths, activity districts, activity edges, activity nodes and central activity zone (CAZ).Chapter Five:the analysis of influence on urban spatial structure in the Information age. Through the comparison of urban activity spatial structure and the existing urban spatial structure (measured by urban residents, land use, etc.), this chapter further explores the influence of ICTs on urban spatial structure from the perspective of urban hierarchy, relationship of activity and land use, space in flow, and function zoning.Chapter Six:conclusion and discussion. This chapter summarizes the main research results and existing problems of this research, and look forward to the prospect of research and practice (in urban planning and management) in the E-Society.
