Research On PON Technology And Its Application In Pingxiang Sky-net Project

With the fast development of data service and customer requirement, traditional ADSL andLAN technologies cannot satisfy the increasing broadband bandwidth demands. Optical accessnetwork technology has been widely accepted as a primary solution for broadband access networkdue to its obvious advantages. Passive Optical Network (PON) has many merits such as low cost,well standard, service transparence, flexible bandwidth allocation and good compatibility, etc. Thisthesis presents a comprehensive research on PON technology and its application in PingxiangSky-net Project.This thesis gives a brief comparison of existing broadband access technologies and theintroduction of PON principles. Specific PON solution strategies have been put forward based onthe analysis of service requirement and current network situation in Pingxiang. Finally, a PONbased Sky-net application is proposed in detail.
