Wireless sensor network (WSN) has been rapidly increased with the development of microelectronic technique, sensor technology and wireless communication technique. WSN has been applied successfully in smart home, underground wireless positioning, smart meter reading, railway monitoring, which inspires people for further exploration of WSN. The paper, aimed at the specific application of low-power, designs low-power sensor node of WSN based on ZigBee. The paper emphasizes on the design of hardware, software platform and protocol stack of low-power node, meanwhile, it has tested the node performance by experimentation.JN5148, which has the functions of RF transceiver and data processing, is selected as the core ZigBee module. The hardware platform of the low-power node includes ZigBee module, SHT15sensor module and power module. Power monitoring circuit based on DS2784has been designed for power monitoring experiment.The design of software platform has been finished on the basis of the hardware platform. It includes the design of building of network, ZigBee network maintenance programming based on mechanism of heartbeat packets, and the design of WSN topology control scheme based on node degree.The paper designs the low-power solution at MAC layer, network layer and application layer. WSN dynamic power control scheme based on LQI has been proposed. It can forecast the LQI using three exponential smoothing algorithm, which improves the defect of LQI fluctuation and can be applied to the node of dynamic power control smoothly. The paper also designs the low-power routing algorithm and sleeping mechanism to reduce the node power further.The experiment on the designed node has been done at the end of the paper, including performance test of WSN dynamic power control scheme and improved low-power routing algorithm. The low-power node is verified to be effective, energy-saving and real-time throughout the experiment. The design achieved the desired purpose.
