Nowadays, the growing demand for high data rate promotes the rapid development of operators’networks. With the improvement of LTE/EPS technical specification, commercial deployment ofthe4G networks has begun. Currently, most of the voice and data services occur indoor. However, most of the LTE networks operate at high frequency, resulting in a weak building penetration. Therefore, indoor coverage has become a vital issue in LTE/EPS system in order to improve theuser experience. As a complement to an eNodeB in indoor environment and an important means to improvenetwork quality, a HeNB not only inherits the features of an eNodeB, but also have the advantagesof flexibility, low-power, etc.In this context, this paper initially focuses on the features of HeNB Subsystem in LTE/EPS andthe characteristics of HeNB, with analyses on requirements and application scenarios of HeNBSubsystem in LTE/EPS. And then, after a brief introduction of interfaces and protocols in HeNBSubsystem, the signaling processes of HeNB are described elaborately. Those signaling processesinclude not only the configuration management process of HeNB, but also the service flows of it.After that, current LIPA mechanisms have been analyzed and compared. A LIPA mechanism withthe distribution granularity of EPS bearer has been focused on. This more feasible mechanismcompensates for the current ones which change existing network too largely. The process of thismechanism is described. Finally, a prototype system of HeNB Subsystem is designed and developed, with test cases designed to verify the implementation scheme being presented.
