According to science and technology management theory, the aim of configuration is to maintain and report the configuring record of every basic IT construction in configuration data base, and meanwhile to control them so that the IT departments can offer their clients the best service within sensible cost. Configuration supports the corresponding purposes through identification, recording, control and affirming all the configuring items in this process.The production process, with emergency, problem, alteration, configuration, usability, and capacity management, jointly demands that a CMDB be established to achieve unification with network control system. This CMDB is to reflect accurately the network failures, provide exact network functioning data, improve its whole usability, and offer scientific evidence for network construction and planning, thus gradually establish a wholesome configuration system, and maintain comprehensive and centralized management for all configuration items. Moreover, this CMDB aims at providing the business operation with stable and efficient running service.The project starts from accomplishing unification between configuration and network management, and aims at building a data base containing all important relations between net information and configuration items, so as to achieve centralized storage, build a connection with net control system to use its rich data, and offer help to its daily maintaining and development. Meanwhile, the project will be providing network resources configuration report and flexible inquiring, and eventually achieve a centralized management.The following five items are involved in configuration: planning, marking, controlling, state reporting and confirming. This project contains the following points:1) Input the configuration information into the centralized configuration management system. By centralized inputting, storing, updating and inquiring, the running processes are standardized. 2) Achieve flexible inquiring.3) Achieve information synchronization among configuration information and other management systems. The first step is to realize automatic synchronization with the sub-branches to enrich network occurrences.4) Achieve a comparison between the information in configuration DB and online configuration. Form discrepancy reports to remind relative network maintaining to upgrade information in net resources configuration DB. Supply various net configuration reports, and combine them with performance reports, so as to provide evidence for capacity management, bandwidth upgrading and expanding.5) Achieve the modification management flow.6) Achieve simple audit functions to provide an inquiry interface, which enables the audit users to confirm audit area, and record the results.The configuration items are the basic configuration units. They may refer to the system (ex, capital management system), or a hardware component (ex, CPU, Memory, etc), or a software module. This management is different form any common assets management in that, besides recording the information on the items themselves, it records the relations among the items, relative information on standards and authorization and the current conditions and alteration instances of the items. The items'attributes involve enhancing, inquiring, modifying and deleting. The facilities and modules can be replaces.The configuration items are not isolated, instead, they have connections: affiliation, composing, control, relating, etc. The focus of this system design is to materializing and achieving different kinds of relations. The point is, the system can automatically carry out corresponding maintaining operation and reduce manual work, and moreover, retain the accuracy and conjunction of the item data.Configuration audit is carried out besides the system. This system only provides an inquiry interface, which enables the audit users to confirm audit area, and record the results. The system offers four forms of reports monthly or weekly. To build up this base involves large manual work. This article discusses how to make use of the net management system to get configuration information automatically and realize the automatic capture of configuration information, then compare them automatically to find faults in manual work, or non-criterion in operation flow to ensure system validity.This project preliminarily achieves the construction and application of the configuration system under production maintenance circumstances. It can be expanded gradually to testing and exploring. The alteration flow has been combined with enterprises overall controlling platform. In the future, this project can extend to project exploring management to achieve the combination of all configuration implements. As to configuration audit, the projects can provide simple state reports. In the future, the project can improve its flow and state reports. It is desirable that more and deeper original data be provided to support production exploration and decision-making.
