With the development of mobile communication industry, the demand for multimediaservice, which has the characteristics of high broadband and high-speed data, is increasinglystrong. According to the study, about50%of voice services and70%of data services aretaken indoor environment. With the LTE standardization process, the concept and techniquesof Home eNodeB are proposed as a new method to solve the indoor coverage which wasconcerned by various operators and manufacturers. HeNB, also known as femtocell (femtocell), is deployed at homes or offices which has advantages of low power and small indoorcoverage with fixed broadband access network for backhaul. Since there may be largequantities of these devices, HeNB capable of self-configuration is promising for operators tosave operational expenditures (OPEX) through substantially reducing the necessary humanintervention. And at the same time, self-configuration ability of HeNB is benefit forimproving the quality of users’ experience.According to the characteristics of HeNB, the requirement of HeNB self-configurationfunction is analyzed combined with SON. After that, HeNB self-configuration architecture isproposed with the details functions for each model. Meanwhile the information model ofHeNB configuration management is also presented.In this paper, three key cases of HeNB self-configuration are deeply researched, whichinclude physical cell identity configurantion, pilot power and carrier configuration. Based onthe proposed configuration architecture, workflows for each case are designed. By thesimulation and experiments, the usability and superiority of the methods for eachself-configuration case are demonstrated.Finally, the HeNB self-configuration system based on TR069CWMP protocol isimplemented. Several single tests including Inform test and GgetRPCMethods test are takento vertify the application of the communication between HeNB system and HeNBs. Thecomprehensive tests are used to show the usability of the configuration functions and faultrepair function within HeNB self-configuration system.
