OTN is a new kind of optical transportation technique which proposed to overcome theshortcomings of SDH and WDM network. It has the technical advantage of the SDH network andWDM network. It also makes possible the transportation of large particles service with highefficiency and low cost, and the end-to-end performance and fault monitoring. With the driving ofbroad-band data services and increasing maturity of OTN technology, apply the OTN technology toconstruct a more efficient and reliable transportation network is the inevitable development of OTNtechnology.Firstly, this thesis gives full explanations of the basic principle and system structure of the OTN,and so as the relationship between the OTN and other transportation techniques. Then it putsforward the basic elements of OTN network planning and the planning process, and the applicationof OTN technology in the transportation network is also intensively studied. After a deepinvestigation into the existing situation of the Jiujiang Telecom transportation network and itsmetropolitan area network capacity requirements in the future three years, the thesis suggests thatthe construction of OTN network is the best selection for the expansion project of Jiujiang Telecomtransportation network. Finally, the thesis introduces in details the topology of Jiujiang TelecomOTN network, its protection scheme, and its service channel assignments planning. At present, theproject has been implemented, which can meet the requirements of the development of opticalbroadband and4G service of Jiujiang Telecom in the future three to five years. The resultdemonstrates that the OTN technology is the best solution to the transportation network for thetelecommunication operator.
