With the development of Internet and computer communication technologies, IPv4-based networks are challeaged due to more and more shortcomings. As an example, the lack of address space and the securities of the network. To this end,the international community made the next-generation Internet protocol IPv6. The conversion from IPv4to IPv6of the networks can not be achieved in a quick way. So networks based on two types of networks will be able to coexist for a quite long period of time. How to implement the coexistence of IPv4and IPv6protocols should be solved. This thesis focus on the China Next Generation Internet (CNGI) IPv6network construction project of the development center, analyse the present situation, and base the solution on dual stack, and design network. The author firstly compares characteristics of IPv6and IPv4protocols.Then concludes that the IPv6protocol has many new features and benefits compares to IPv4. Secondly, introduces the background of transition from IPv4networks to IPv6ones, three transition technologies, which are dual-stack protocol, tunneling, and network address translation protocol and conversion technology, are researched in detail through comparing their advantages and disadvantages, performance and application environment. These three transition technologies are implemented in a simulated network environment. Simuliation results show that to different transition techonology suits for different network environments. And the performance of IPv6networks based on dual-stack technology has been verified to be durable. Focus on dual stack technology, including the principle%routing algorithm。Finally, this thesis introduces the IPv6network construction project to verify the performance of IPv6and IPv4coexistance networks. Complete the network construction, implementation, deployment and system test are carried out. The CNGI project uses dual stack IPv6access technology to achieve the IPv4network and IPv6network interoperability successfully, and achieve the intended purpose.
