Reality television is import from the west and developed more than ten years inChina.Accompanying China’s TV media industrialization process, reality televisionfierce the increasingly competition in recent years.Especially since2010, China’s TVscreen appeared many reality television that professional imported foreign televisionprogram formats, many reality television achieved strong response from the audience,like China’s Got Talents. At present, China’s TV industry is more and more keen toimport the foreign television program format,This phenomenon led me think aboutthe problem of the television program format’s localization in China.This article consists of four parts. The first part introduces the researchtheoretical basis of the television program format’s localization, based on theproximity principle, analysis the television program format’s localization strategies.Part two presents the reality television’s status of development, including itsdevelopment process、background and main types. Third part combines with thespecific case study the Chinese reality shows’ characteristics and problems in theprocess of television program format’s localization. Part four probes into thereflection for localization, put forward a solution to the problem, finally predict thelocalization development of television program format in China.This paper think that under the influence of different culture background,human resource, cost and such factors,television program format need to reconstructthe localization tactics in the process of the development.First of all,localization needfollowing the commonness and individuality in cultural values reconstruction andguiding the social mainstream values.Second, the reconstruction of content shouldfollowing the policy innovation of moderate principle, making the program’s contentclose to public life, stimulating the audience’s participation.Finally, in thereconstruction of program operation model should based on market needs, politicalpolicy background, establishing program brand and build industry value chainintegration program.Domestic reality television in the process of localization shouldblend into the local characteristics, find out the position of audience and market,only in this way, the reality television can obtain sustainable competitive advantage andachieve sustainable growth in China.
