The data center of Huangpu District Education Bureau wasestablished in2001. It has been carrying the construction andmaintenance work for the Huangpu District Education "School Link"MAN, and the major application service platform. Due to the lack ofoverall planning and the increasing scale of business and the increasingnumber of users in recent years, the original infrastructure was tiredfilling and can not meet the user’s requirements for the quality of services.In the maintenance work, the long-term problems, as resource utilizationis not high, poor management, poor business continuity, the difficulty ofdata backup, have been plaguing data center managers.In order to solve the above problems, this paper introduces the servervirtualization technology. We want to increase the flexibility of theinfrastructure, to achieve the integration and sharing of physical resources,to simplify the construction of supporting infrastructure needs, to reducereconstruction costs and operation and maintenance costs, and increasethe availability of business systems and data security.Firstly, we introduce the current situation and problems of theHuangpu District Education data center by the in-depth analysis. Then, from the introduction of virtualization technology related concepts,combining mainstream development trend of data center, we discussesthe necessity of server virtualization technology in the data center.Subsequently, with the in-depth analysis of ways and means to achieveserver virtualization technology, we have a further discuss for thefeasibility of server virtualization technology. Then, combined withserver virtualization best practices, we design and implement a set ofsolutions for dynamic resource pools based on VMware vSphere.These have four steps to complete the dynamic resource pools, withplanning, design, implementation and evaluation.In the lanning session, referenced to the original business systemdesign requirements and historical monitoring data analysis, we set thegoal of building virtualized pool of resources.In the design session, through the historical monitoring data Datacombing and application service classification, we refined performanceand capacity requirements; accord to the planning requirements, wedesign implementation and realization of the functional components of amethod for high availability; we design independent managementcomponents for system management planning objectives; based onbusiness planning requirements, we design of testing and evaluationprogram for four main functions,as the availability of virtual machinesrespectively, ESXi host cluster availability, dynamic resource pool scalability and system backup/recovery.Implementation process is mainly based on vSphere virtualizationplatform to build infrastructure, deployment and management of basicfunctional module assembly.In assessment sessions, we have a set of test for VM availabilityusing the load method; we simulate host failure, to verify the availabilityof the ESXi host clusters; by both machine expansion and rapiddeployment with templates, we validate the scalability of the dynamicresource pools; Finally, we simulate failure scenarios, using the snapshotfeature to restore business system, to verify that the virtual machinesystem security.In this paper, we build a dynamic resource pool, based on VMwarevirtualization solutions, to achieve the integration of existing physicalserver farm. By the Consolidation, it not only enhances the flexibility ofthe infrastructure, improves the efficiency of the use of physical serverresources, but also reduces the cost of upgrading and maintaininginfrastructure transformation, simplifys server management, improves thelevel of services. The results show that the implementation of the projectby building dynamic resource pools based on virtualization technologynot only effectively solve the urgent problem of the development, but alsoenhances the flexibility and availability of infrastructure, so that datacenters of Huangpu District Education Bureau can better meet the actual needs of future development.
