Research On Application Of FRID Technology In College Library Management And Service

Radio Frequency Identification (Abbrev. RFID）, widely used as an automatedidentification technology in past10years, poses itself a technology with highdevelopment potential and vast application room. The paper begins with the introductionof FRID research and application in the fields of domestic and international transportationmanagement, modern logistics&supply chain management, retail, production and publicinformation service. By reviewing its management system and application effect indomestic and international libraries and its differences in the management mode andworking procedure from current traditional management mode by using bar code labelstogether with anti-theft magnetic stripes, it is proposed to replace the traditional bar codelabels with FRID ones. Such replacement will play a significant role in improving thedistribution management and working efficiency and realizing intelligent librarymanagement. Secondly, the paper analyses the role change of the librarian after theintroduction of FRID technology, from a stand-by information service provider to adocument&information-demanded analyst, messenger and guide, become a subjectlibrarian in colleges and universities. It is also analyzed in the paper that, to make asuccessful role change, librarians shall work at the reader-focused goal to set up hisprofessional image, comprehend his own knowledge organization and enhance hisworking capability, and the library leaders shall offer on-job trainings tailor-made tospecific librarians to improve the overall quality and public image of their personnel. Thepaper ends with analysis on the existing problems of the technology application in regardto standards, costs, human resource distribution, security, information accountability,technology, personal secrets, etc. and their corresponding solutions. Considering currentresearch situation, the writer believes, that, the problems to resolve are expected to resolveappropriately, with the further development and wider application of FRID technology,standard unification, idea renewal, relative policies’ perfection. It is also believed that,with joint efforts of relative parties, the wider application of FRID technology in collegelibraries will urge the construction of digital libraries in domestic colleges and make a great reform in library working methods, improve dynamically the library service leveland working efficiency as well as utilization of library documents and information and thelibrary capability to serve teaching and scientific research.
