With the rapid development, modern scientific technology has influenced our life style in all aspects. Especially as the increasing demands for the quality of life, the items and facilities have changed dramatically. Water is the most important thing in human life, so high quality water plays a vital role in improving and purifying human life. So our prime goal is to finding out a method in which people can produce main water efficiently, with low consumption, stably and conveniently is also our constant pursuit.In this paper through the study of the world’s present water resources and the discussion of the changes of water quality standard, we put forward a transformation project for the automatic control system in water works. On the basis of the original equipment, we designed a set of water production automatic control systems based on PLC, configuration software, Ethernet and wireless communication.In this paper, This system is divided into three parts which includes waterworks、PC monitor and bus connecting. The waterworks can be divided into pumping house、water purification plant、water-supply station and dewatering room. They used S7-200or S7-300series programmable controller to complete all the work, and in the central control room there is a S7-300series PLC which is used to change data with the subsystems and it will be communicate with the computers in central control room through Ethernet. The equipment in pumping house communicate with PLC in central control room through GPRS, the others are looped network. The application of looped network makes any line’s break doesn’t lead to the others, this design improves the reliability of the control system. The Configuration software IFIX ran in two computers respectively, which was used for data collection and real-time modification in the productive process. We used WEBSPACE technology in IFIX, the application of this technology can make the other computers see the current state of the all data through the IFIX server and, those can improve the information degree of this system.Given that it would transform the originally complex and difficult production flow to the more stable、safe、cheap and convenient one, the integration of automatic control technology and water industry will certainly be the future trends in the industry The successful application of this system can solve the problems which appeared frequently before, and can further improve the main water purification process. This redesign can not only ensure the quality of the water, but also improve the production efficiency of water industry, reduce the cost of the maintenance of production equipments. Generally speaking, the new system can increase the economic benefit significantly.
