With constant progress and development of digital technology and network technology, new media, represented by the Internet media, mobile media, digital TV and the like, have becoming more and more important in people’s daily life. New media have changed not only media technology and forms, but also people’s thoughts, ideas, thinking modes and their behavior. Literal communication once brought society and people an “interpretation” thinking pattern and expressing way with development of times. New media forms under the new media environment have impacted people’s serious, focused and clear way of reading brought by letters. The order, standardization and authority of literal communication have also changed with the change of media environment and media forms. Through analyses of literal communication under the new media environment, the thesis summarizes features of literal communication under the new media environment, reveals influences on literal communication brought by changes of the media environment, proposes opportunities and possibilities of new development for literal communication under the new media environment, and inspects importance of literal communication to better promote inheritance of social culture.The thesis mainly has the following three innovation points: first, study literal communication against the background of changes of media forms and integrate disciplinary knowledge of philology and communication sciences for interdisciplinary research; second, discuss performance and features of literal communication in different media forms, show new situation of media structure under the new media environment, make an comprehensive analysis on relations between new media and literal communication and actively seek a new way for development of literal communication; finally, the research position of the thesis is not to support “literal communication” regardless of development of times, but emphasize that we can still take advantage of merits which literal communication formerly has, like rational thinking, and give play to its positive role in today’s society under the new media environment.The thesis takes literal communication as the object of study. Supported by new media and its relevant theories, the thesis focuses on clarifying performance and features of literal communication under different media forms and information terminals based on the new media environment now. Then, the thesis compares and analyzes the performance and features to seek opportunities and possibilities for literal communication to realize new development under the new media environment. And then the thesis discusses the necessity and significance of attaching great importance to literal communication. The thesis includes the following main chapters:Introduction: discuss briefly the research background, purpose and significance of the thesis and clarify the current development situation in this research field both at home and abroad.Chapter1: new media and their features. This part mainly defines and discusses the research content and theoretical foundation of the thesis. It mainly includes: the definition of new media; the features of new media; influences brought by new media on politics, economy and culture and its influence on traditional media, etc.Chapter2: new media forms and literal communication. This part briefly clarifies the course of letters’ emergence and development, and analyzes letters’ features. Then it summarizes performance forms and patterns of new media and analyzes features of literal communication attached to new media forms. Analyses are mainly on all kinds of media forms under the new media environment. Relying on micro blog, WeChat, blogs, E‐mail, electronic publications and other media forms, the thesis analyzes features like fragmentization, metaphorization, fun and cocentration which literal communication takes on under the new media environment while the digital technology, information technology and communication technology are becoming increasingly developed today. Chapter3: influences brought by changes of media environment on literal communication. This part uses the Bias theory of communication by Innis for reference to analyze the society’s media bias and discuss influences brought by changes of media environment on literal communication.Chapter4: new development of literal communication under the new media environment. Based on analyses of change trends in the process of human social development, this part analyzes and discusses the performance and development of literal communication under the new media environment taking digital publication and digital reading for example.Conclusion: summarize and propose research conclusions.
