In recent years, there are many safety accidents caused by the escalator in domestic.Facing this situation, both countries and manufacturers make the necessary measures. On onehand, countries proposed a regulation called “manufacture and installation specification ofautomatic escalators and moving walkways”. On the other hand, many escalatormanufacturers are working hard to produce new escalators which are more advantages such ashigh safety, energy saving, comfort and so on. In terms of safety performance, manufacturersusually focus on how to improve the quality of the escalator and how to avoid the accident intechnology. In this situation, this paper designed a real-time escalator monitoring systembased on ZigBee technology which is low power consumption and low cost. Through thereal-time monitoring the escalator, the system further improves the safety of escalator.The real-time system consists of data acquisition subsystem and data processingsubsystem. The data transmission between the subsystems is the Zigbee wirelesscommunication network. In the design of the data acquisition subsystem, according to thecommon faults of the escalator, this paper determines the measuring parameters and thecorresponding sensor nodes: vibration sensor node, temperature sensor node, speed sensornode, the amount of oil sensor node and flame sensor node. These sensor nodes can collectinformation of vibration, remaining oil of lubrication system, temperature and speed of themotor and the escalator internal flame. In the design of the data processing system, this papernot only improves the speed of the system, but also uses the GPRS technology. In order toimprove the response speed of the system, there are two things have been done: one is usingthe STM32F207in hardware, another one is setting two different priorities in software.Considering the advantages and disadvantages of wired and other wireless transmissions,decides to use the Zigbee communication scheme. In this system, this paper sets up Zigbeenetwork development hardware platform (CC2530chip and network bee ZigBee developmentkit) and software platform (Z-Stack).In summary, the real-time monitoring system of escalator designed in this paper can findand deal with the emergency incidents and potential fault timely. Not only extend theescalator service life, but also improves the safety of escalator.
