In1895, the first escalator was installed in Coney Island of New York; it means that the commercial operation of escalators began. And after that, the escalators have been applied to super market, metro station, airport and other public places. And it has been one of the most important means of step.With the development of electronic technology, escalator's control system as the main core part of escalator has been improved a lot as well. It has gone through three main stages: relays control stage, PLC control stage and Micro-computer control stage. And Micro-computer control has been a trend.According to the features and weak points of, one escalator control system based on ARM7 is designed. This system use chip of ARM7 core; details of hardware and software designing will be introduced in this paper. Both hardware and software designing has used the method of module designing and it will make the whole system's hardware and software's debug more quick and easy. The input power, I/O port, display module, communication module and clock module circuits will be introduced one by one in the hardware designing. And in the clock module designing, the process of charging and the charging circuit of Lithium battery will be introduced. In the designing of software, the initiation of LPC2368 and the application layer of CAN bus will be talked of in details.This escalator control system has been installed and debugged in jobsite and it can satisfy almost all the requirements of escalator. And it has been applied to commercial operation.
