The work gravity and leaders’ energy of Palace Museum of Peiping had beentransferred with the migrating of cultural relics to the South and the West after1933.A.D. Therefore, the unattended Palace Museum of Peiping hadn’t gotten enoughfinancial and human supports as well as sufficient concern during1933to1945.Peiping was occupied by the Japanese aggressors after Lugouqiao Incident in1937.Soon the Japanese raged around the whole city. The unattended staff members hadtried their best to protect the security of Palace Museum, Jingshan Imperial Park, theImperial Ancestral Temple, and the Museum of Antique Exhibitions and maintainedthe affairs of them under difficult circumstance. Despite the cultural relics had beentransferred to the south with five teams, the relics left in Peiping and ancient buildingsstill faced a great test by the Japanese invaders who coveted the antiques of thepreceding Royal palaces of Ming and Qing Dynasties. Fortunately, Palace Museum ofPeiping hadn’t suffered huge losses by the efforts of staffs under the leadership ofChief of General Affairs department, Zhang Tingji although it full in several crisissuch as the movement of destroyed books and magazines by Japanese army andpolice, the Collections of Bronze and Irons, the Fight for the president of PalaceMuseum of Peiping and so on. The Museum of Antique Exhibitions didn’t sufferlosses due to the relationships between its staff members and Japanese as well as thesecluded protection from patriotic scholars and politicians. It was a pity that theHistory Museum located in the Meridian Gate had been pillaged by Japanese armywith lots less important cultural relics.Fortunately, the Palace Museum of Peiping and the Museum of AntiqueExhibitions didn’t closed but flexibly juggled between the regime and the Japaneseand then made the full use of the financial resources of the society to promote thedevelopments of them. Besides, they perfectly protected themselves with theassistance of noble family and senior scholars. What’s more, Palace Museum and theMuseum of Antique Exhibitions still made progresses on the museum transactions ofcontinuing surveying and mapping the Palace Museum, displaying exhibitions,repairing the ancient buildings, publishing books and taking photographs and so on. Inthis way, the development of setting each other off described the outline of thehardships and setbacks during the development of the “Giant Palace Museum ofPeiping” in Occupied Period.
