Many English teachers in China have realized the importance of cultural teaching in English language teaching. But English textbooks used by senior high schools involve much about the culture and custom of English-speaking countries rather than about the knowledge of Chinese culture. Learners lack the knowledge of their own culture, and they are poor in expressing Chinese culture in English in an accurate and appropriate way. Classical poetry is precious treasure in China’s valuable collection of literature. And the English version is a combination of rich Chinese culture and key language points. This study aims at exploring the feasibility and scheme of including more English versions of classical Chinese poems in NSEFC. It is conducted to consummate the choreographic work of poetry selection in high school textbooks, make up for the deficiency of this field to some extent and provide a new perspective to deal with "Chinese culture aphasia".Based on previous studies, this thesis applies the SWOT framework to conduct the analysis respectively from the perspective of instrumentality and humanity. By shedding light upon the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the idea one by one, the feasibility of this study is proved. And the summary shows that the poems included in NESFC should conform to the unit in both language points and topics. In addition, the cultural content should be appropriate for high school students. Then this thesis puts forward a tentative mode to imitate the process of original materials development by choosing Unit 4 of Book 5 and four classical Chinese poems as a sample, making the study complete.
