Aiming to promote Irish literature internationally, the national agency "Irish Literature Exchange" distributes such a booklet-New Writing from Ireland every year. With the cultural exchanges increasing, a large number of Irish literatures are introduced into China. It is of great significance to translate this brochure, letting Chinese readers have a better understanding of Irish literature. Furthermore, in order to have a good knowledge of translation, translation theory is employed to guide this translation practice.German Skopostheorie has played an important role in translation practice. In Skopestheorie, translation is regarded as a communicative action, that is "the end justifies its means", which is determined by the specific translation skopes. Under the guidance of Skopostheorie, This thesis firstly analyses the text and function and comes to the conclusion that the text in translation is informative and vocative with the function of providing information and persuading. To realize the function of the source text at a great extent, transliteration and literal translation should be taken when translating the names and awards in informative texts, adaption, literal translation, and free translation, combination of literal and free translation should be taken when translating the summary of the works as persuasive text.
