Reseach On The Respect Words In The Ming Dynasty Letters Of Shanghai Library

The flourishing period of respect words was quickly developed in Ming Dynasty, there was a large amount of respect words which were frequently used during that time. Ming Dynasty Letters of Shanghai Library contained 877 respect words, which had a large scale and a wide scope. There was no specific study about the respect words of this book in academic achievement until now. In order to know the respect words of Ming Dynasty better and enrich researchers on lexicology, lexicography and inheritance of China etiquette culture, this paper set to study polite expressions of Ming Dynasty Letters of Shanghai Library.We primarily through the methods of statistical argument with examples, diachronic and synchronic’s comparison, in order to rough out an integrated framework for the respect words of this book, and study it from different angles and different levels.This research includes three chapters. The first chapter, we fall 874 words into 673 entries to explained, in order to lay the foundation for classifying and summarizing the next section. The second chapter, the respect words were classified into two kinds: appellation and formulation.According to different objects,the appellation words fall into relatives,inolved relative,related to old man, the official,general,bend, general designation and so on. According to respect morpheme yes or no, the formulation words fall into the words contain respect morpheme, the words not contain respect morpheme.The third chapter, analysing the characteristic of the respect words through two approaches.On the one hand, pointed ou the characteristic of directivity, nationality, decade, relativity, subjectivity from a macro perspective; On the other hand, from a micro perspective that was analysing the characteristics of respect words about structures and semantic fields, point out the characteristic of the large number, most contain respect morpheme, most synonym,most format terms,most respect words used together.Main contributions of the dissertation were summarized as follows. Firstly, we illustrated the meaning of polite expressions by examples, statistics and lists.We can check information more conveniently; Secondly,around respect morpheme to analysis; Finally,combine from macro and micro perspectives to summarize the characteristic, comparison between the respect words of this book, the same period’s books and the others in medieval was to find out the differences between pragmatics and stylistic features.
