Since lack of information, the study for Xu Guangqi in his first phase of his life, his growing up and learning in his hometown Shanghai County, rarely occurred among scholars both in China and out of China. This dissertation just discusses Xu Guangqi’s early life in order to fill in the academic vacancies. There are four angles in this article to deal with Xu Guangqi’s activities, his raising in Shanghai literari, his compellation and writings, his relationship circles, and his academic group.Shanghai as a metropolis known by around the word, and the western scholars contribute her arise to western civilization invasion when she was forced became a treaty port in1843. Even most of Chinese scholars have the same point. But the fact is, Shanghai has a very long history since San Guo period, and her cultures so booming in Mid-Ming Dynasty that her culture power nearly as same as Suzhou.Shanghai gives Xu Guangqi some unique qualities, such as global viewing angle and open minded, to boost him accepted western knowledge and Catholic on his own initiative. Xu Guangqi attempt to build up a new system of Chinese academic through combination of Confucius and Catholic. He and Li Zhizao plan to translation7,000volume books to fill in Chinese academic system. Xu Guangqi is the first one who dedicate himself to converging China to the world.
