Objective:To investigate the relationship between serum uric acid and arteriosclerosis diseases.Methods:1258persons took part in physical examination in2012.1002men were recruited and divided into two groups:hyperuricemia (HUM) group (n=281) and non-HUM group (n=721). In order to study the relationship between serum uric acid and age, all these participants were subgroup according to age:group1from60to69years old (n=187), group2from70to79(n=472), group3from80to89(n=243). Serum uric acid (SUA), cholesterol (CHO), triglyceride (TG), higher-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), lower-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), fasting blood glucose (FBG), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbAlc), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine (SCr) and blood pressure (BP) were measured in these persons. Results:Though the levels of serum uric acid were higher in group2,3respectively than in group1,there were no significant statistically difference in SUA among these three groups(P>0.05), and there was no relationship between age and level of SUA (r=0.027, P>0.05). SUA was positively correlated with TG level, SCr level and BUN level (r=0.268,0.206,0.188, P<0.01) while was negatively correlated with HDL-C and FBG (r=-0.286, P<0.01; r=-0.064, P<0.05). SUA has no relevant with CHO, LDL-C, HbA1c, SBP, DBP (r=0.044,0.050,-0.012,0.055,0.043, P>0.05). Further analysis showed that the levels of TG ((1.84±1.16) mmol/L), SCr ((95.38±24.80) u mol/L),BUN ((6.85±2.03) mmol/L) in HUM group were significantly higher than those in non-HUM group ((1.37±0.67) mmol/L,(83.71±29.53)μmol/L, respectively),((6.71±1.61) mmol/L). Compared to those in non-HUM group, the level of HDL-C was significantly lower in HUM group ((1.12±0.25) mmol/L vs(l.27±0.30) mmol/L, P<0.01). The levels of serum uric acid is correlated to the occurrences of hyperlipidemia, hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus and chronic renal failure (B=2.108,1.688,1.720,1.738,2.108; P<0.01). The prevalences of hyperlipidemia (43.4%), hypertension (76.5%), coronary heart disease (CHD)(31.0%), and chronic renal failure (CRF)(9.6%) were higher in HUM group than in non-HUM group (26.1%,61.0%,27.3%,2.5%respectively). The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) in HUM group (23.0%) had no statistically difference to that in non-HUM group (22.8%)(P>0.05).Conclusions:The elder males with HUM are more vulnerable to hypertension, CHD and CRF than those with normal serum uric acid. It maybe due to the increase levels of TG, SCr and the decrease levels of HDL-C according to the rising levels of serum uric acid.
