The Survey On Oral Health Status And Relevant Factors In An Gang Business Community

ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalent status of oral disease and its influencing factors in An Gang Business community, including the status of oral health K-A-P and the implementation status of community-based oral health services, and to collect, collate, analyze and compare the prevalent status of oral disease among different age groups in An Gang Business community during10years, so as to provide the basis for formulating appropriate oral intervention measurements, and provide reference for developing business community oral health care services in China.MethodsQualitative and quantitative research were used. The study samples were investigated by shortcut survey recommended by WHO, and were representative of the index age groups (5,12,15,65-74years old). The12-year-old group must be native-born and never left before6-year-old. Four kindergartens, three primary schools, one middle school and10unit buildings were random selected. All subjects were taken to finish questionnaires and oral health examination among groups of5,12,15-year-old and residents aged65-74years old were random selected to finish questionnaires and oral health examination, to understand the prevalent status of oral disease and oral health K-A-P among community residents. The oral health examination included dental caries, periodontal disease, patients status of dental fluorosis and treatment demand, status of oral health and wearing dentures and denture treatment demand; oral health questionnaire included basis situation, oral health behaviors, diet habits, oral health knowledge, oral health attitudes, and so on. The5-year-old group’s parents were investigated. Qualitative survey mainly collected the measurements and implementation of oral health care services from November2000to November2010in An Gang Business community, which aimed to understand An Gang Business community oral health services policies, interventions, and so on.The software of Epidata3.1was used for completing data entry and verification, and the software of SPSS13.0for data description and analysis.Results1604residents were investigated in total, and the number of groups of5,12,15,65~74years old were127,523,714and240respectively. The valid questionnaires were1602, and the effective rate was99.9%.The prevalence rate of dental caries of deciduous teeth was62.7%in2010among5-year-old group in An Gang Business community, while the prevalence rate of dental caries of permanent teeth among were34.0%,28.2%and56.5%respectively. The deciduous or permanent DMFT among5,12,15,65~74years old groups were2.01±2.07,0.76±1.30,0.57±1.09and1.87±2.54respectively. The caries filling rate among5,12,15,65~74years old groups were13.0%,15.6%,22.8%and17.6%. Seven people among65-74years old group all had no teeth(2.9%).The results of oral health examination in2010compared with in2000showed that among5-year-old children prevalence rate of dental caries of deciduous teeth was lower by14.9%, caries decreased to2.55, caries filling rate increased by10.6%, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.01).Among12-year-old group, prevalence rate of dental caries of permanent teeth was lower by11.8%, caries decreased to0.31, caries filling rate increased by14.4%, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.01) except decreased caries.Among15-year-old group, prevalence rate of dental caries of permanent teeth was lower by8.0%(P<0.05), caries filling rate increased by20.8%(P<0.01).Among65-74years old group, prevalence rate of dental caries of permanent teeth was lower by7.8%, caries decreased to0.14, caries filling rate increased by4.4%, and the differences were not statistically significant(.P>0.05); the average tooth loss reduce by2.25, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Among5-year-old children in2010,104of123children parents had heard of fluoride toothpaste(84.6%), and90.7%-100.0%of them had high positive attitude on oral health. Among12-year-old group, the awareness rates of the correct concept of ’plaque’ and ’heard of fluoride toothpaste’were23.0%and36.4%respectively. The positive attitude rates were more than90percent on average,464cases had daily brushing and more, accounting for89.7%; The highest proportion of how to get oral health knowledge was by parents means(19.0%).The awareness rates of oral health knowledge among15-year-old group were all above55%, but the awareness rate of ’plaque’ was28.9%only.The awareness rates of’bleeding gums when brushing your teeth is not normal’and ’periodic oral examination is necessary’among12-15years old group in2010were higher than in2000, and so was daily brushing and more(P<0.01).The oral health behaviors among65-74years old group showed that people daily brushing and more in2010were more than in2000(P<0.01); Frequencies in using flossing, going to hospital for dental treatment within one year, and the use of fluoride toothpaste were statistically significant (P<0.01) in2010compared with in2000.ConclusionThe residents oral health conditions among different age groups have improved in An Gang business community, the prevalence rate of dental caries and the average number of dental caries of deciduous(permanent) got lower, while the caries filling rate got higher. The average loss of teeth in2010compared with in2000reduced, but litter indcxs did not reach the plan goal. After community oral health services were taken into chronic disease prevention system, series of oral health interventions were adopted. Using community health service centers for oral health services, oral health knowledge, attitudes and behaviors improved well.
