Objectives:The Army Division is one of the main combat force for national security and stability facing a variety of heavy tasks and complicate situation. It is necessary to improve the capability of health service and strengthen the health of personnel in order to better prepare for all kinds of tasks and deal with the ability of handling random incidents, which plays a very important role to improve the combat ability. Our research deeply investigated the oral health status and oral health service resources among Army Divisions. We hope to acquire the information about oral health, medical care and oral health behaviors, to study the prevalence characteristic of oral disease, to improve the level of diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases among Army Divisions, and broaden the boundary oral health care.Under the new situation of our Army Divisions, we have proposed oral medical equipment and material configuration standards, especially facing a modern high-tech,information-based combat readiness, it is very necessary and important to improve oralhealth service job. We must improve oral health level and strengthen configuration standards of oral medical equipment and material among Army Divisions. Our study is helpful for strengthening the research of allocation standard for oral health resources in the Army Divisions, which can provide the reference and the basis for our oral military health services. Methods:We used random cluster sampling method to investigate the oral diseases of the officers and the soldiers among one of Army Divisions. It was a typical survey research. We used the standards of Oral Health Survey of WHO(1997) and selected some officers and soldiers of one Army Division as the respondents. The approach can be determined according to the sample size, the minimum sample size we estimated was 1076 individuals. We selected six examiners who were all detists and were trained with the standards. The weighted kappa values for interexaminer were 0.85. The investigators issued LED flashlight for oral visual examination, We unified oral examination instruments, recorded the results in the oral health survey, The database was established by VF6.0 software and analyzed the data by SPSS(17.0) statistical software. According to the research purposes,We selected seven Army Divisions Hospitals as typical samples, investigated the oral health resources, studied the Army Division problems of oral health services through small workshop. In addition, we also investigated five dental clinics of the Garrison Hospital and analysed the level of service and the ability for the officers and soldiers. Results:Through oral health survey for the officers and soldiers of the Army Division, we collected 1292 questionnaires, the qualified questionnaires were 1217, the percent of pass is 94.2%. They were male. And the average age was 21.33±2.80 years old. All of them are young adults. We divided the respondents into 3 groups, The ratio of soldiers was 64.7%(about 787 individuals), the ratio of sergeants was 30.4%( about 370 individuals), and the ratio of officers was 4.9%( about 60 individuals). The dental caries prevalence rate of the military personnels was 31.55%, the DMFTwas 0.47, the rate of periodontitis was 56.3%, the Periodontal disease section number was2.26, the rate of oral ulcer diseases was 6.49%. The rate of dental visit was 21.8%, the rate of acute toothache was 6.7%, the rate of chronic toothache was 5.4%, the rate of loose teeth was 4.4%, the rate of oral preventive was 12.1%. The rate of oral check was 13.4%,the rate of fillings teeth was 8.9%, the rate of pulling teeth was 2.8%, the rate of periodontitis was 2.4%. The military people who brushes the teeth more than two times were 55.6%, the utilization rate of ordinary toothpaste was 37.3%, the utilization rate of drug toothpaste was 23.9%. The utilization rate of fluoride toothpaste was 19.6%, the utilization rate of chewing gum is 4.7%, The utilization rate of gargle water was 46.1%,The utilization rate of toothpick was 4.9%, The utilization rate of dental floss was 8.5%.The survey results showed that 35.00% soldiers did not need oral medical care, 39.61%need oral medical care regularly, 23.34% need oral medical care as soon as possible, and2.05% need dental emergencies. There were more factors about the oral health by analysis, including age, position, manpower, brushing frequency, smoking status, smoking index and other factors.Through investigating oral health resources of seven Army Divisions, it can be found that oral health resources were unbalanced. We should improve the staffing standards of The Army Division and better allocated oral professional sergeant. The military people of Army Division are facing many oral problems. We should improve oral health level. Dental medical equipment was deficient. There is no supply standards in Dental medical materials. We propose that dental equipment should be standardized and modular configuration should be considered. We need enhance oral health level and reduce the factors of oral health. The dental clinic of Garrison Hospital was one of the main forces for the military people. We also need improve the level of service for the military people. Conclusion:According to the typical survey of oral health status among Army Divisions in China, the oral diseases are very common. Most of them were no treatment, there are moreoral health risk factors and the ability of oral health protection is also weak. So we should strengthen oral health resources, the dental materials is no supply standards. Currently, according to development of the world military revolution, we need to establish the support system of oral health service among Army Divisions, strengthen the education of oral health knowledge, develop oral disease prevention measures, improve oral health resources, establish the information systems of oral health service, and set up flexibly oral cooperation mechanism.
