Canine pancreatitis, namely inflammation of the activation of pancreatic enzymes inpancreatic and autodigestion of pancreas. It is one of the dogs common digestive systemdisease. Timely and correct treatment of the mild Canine pancreatitis, always lead to goodprognosis. Diagnosis and treatment of canine severe pancreatitis is difficult due to itscomplex and pathogenesis developing rapidly that the death rate is higher. Although theresearch of canine pancreatitis has made a lot of progresses in recent years, causative agentand mechanism are still unclear because the data is limited. The purpose of this study wasbased on a Nanjing pet hospital from April2009to March2014, among the last5years tohospital for treatment of146canine pancreatitis cases, the retrospective study was performed. The basic data, clinical manifestation, laboratory examination and imaging diagnosis, treatment methods and other aspects were analyzed. The results will help us to betterunderstand the development of local canine pancreatitis, providing reference data for clinicaldiagnosis and treatment of canine pancreatitis. There is a relationship between the occurrence of canine pancreatitis and age, varieties, weight and food habits of dogs. Canine pancreatitis are mainly distributed in adult dogs overthe age of three, elderly dogs are more frequent; Schnauzer, poodle and the varieties such ascocker spaniel are in the increased risk of pancreatitis. What is given priority to human foodand overweight dogs are more likely to suffer from acute pancreatitis. The Symptoms of canine pancreatitis are various. It mainly depends on factors such asetiology, physiclal status, severity of illness and therapeutic measure. According to the clinicalinvestigation and analysis, most dogs with pancreatitis showed lassitude, anorexia, abdominalpain, nausea and vomiting, oliguria, yellow urine, dehydration and other symptoms. But dueto the complication of the cause of canine pancreatitis, clinical symptoms are vary andnonspecific. Thus the diagnosis of canine pancreatitis mainly depend on laboratory andimaging diagnosis. In this study, the results from laboratory tests and imaging diagnosissuggested that, the leukocyte of103dogs (103/146,70.5%) is increased obviously and, thereare more than117dogs (117/146,80%) manifested increase of serum amylase (AMYL) andlipase (LIPA), of which more than half of them increased three times than the normal value. Except AMYL and LIPA, Increase of total bilirubin and the serum alanine aminotransferasewere also used in the diagnosis of biliary pancreatitis index. Imaging diagnosis is only usefulfor severe acute pancreatitis diagnosis and the abdominal X-ray and abdominal B ultrasoundalso can be employed to distinguish canine pancreatitis from other similar symptoms of thedisease. In clinical, the treatment of canine pancreatitis mainly depends on the unified medicinetherapy. The basic treatment principle is early fasting, correction of fluid and electrolyteimbalance, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antiemetic, inhibiting secretion of pancreas, liverand gallbladder, regulating metabolism, later gradually given enteral nutrition and combinedother auxiliary treatment. However, because of its complexity, more effective therapy andreasearches are needed to find for curing the pancreatitis.
