Research On Knowledge Diffusion Based On Citation Network

Knowledge diffusion is a necessary part of the realization of the value of knowledge, and is one of the necessary conditions for knowledge production. For scientific research field, knowledge diffusion is shown by the citation relationship between articles, the citation network which contained these citation relationships is the platform and path set of knowledge diffusion. To study the condition of knowledge diffusion of the target disciplinary field, can help us to understand the structure and the status and trend of the field.According to the theory and properties of the citation network and knowledge diffusion, the 3D Citation Network Model (contains the Overall Field Maturity Model of vertical dimension and the Modular Model of Citation Network of horizontal dimension) and the Dynamic Display Model of knowledge diffusion level (contains the Sub-field Maturity Model) were constructed; two quantitative indices called Net Quantity of Knowledge Diffusion and Relative Speed of Knowledge Diffusion were defined in this paper.The large-scale network analysis tools, GephiO.8.2, were adopted to generate citation network on the basis of the bibliography and citation data of 3493 core journal papers on the theme of "Knowledge Management (KM)" in China published since 1998. Divided the development stages of the KM field in China to four stages with the help of the Overall Field Maturity Model, the first stage (1998-2001) is the period of introduction, the second stage (2002-2006) is the period of growth, the third stage (2007-2011) is the period of maturity, and the fourth stage (2012-2015) is the period of decline. Divided the citation network into six modularized sub-networks by the use of the Modular Model of Citation Network, the sub-fields of KM they to represent respectively as "Discipline and Theoretical Basis of KM", "KM in the perspective of Library Science and Informatics", "KM in the perspective of Strategic Management", "KM in the perspective of Organization Management", "Knowledge Management Systems and Technical methods of KM" and "The Comprehensive Application of KM in Various Fields". By combining the results of the above two steps, we can get the three-dimensional citation network on KM in china. On the basis of these networks, the knowledge diffusion levels of six modules of KM in China are measured by using the Net Quantity of Knowledge Diffusion Index and Relative Speed of Knowledge Diffusion Index, and the measured results were dynamically displayed after the statistical work.Finally, according to the results of empirical measurement, the condition of knowledge diffusion of KM in China is analyzed based on each branch of the module combined with the reality.
