Knowledge diffusion is of great impact on knowledge inheritance and creation. In basic research field, knowledge is open and public therefore the process andpattern of diffusion process is of its own characteristics. Citing is not only anacademic behavior which happens when researchers write scientific papers, but alsoone of the manifestations of knowledge diffusion. A large number of citationrelationships constitute a citation network which embodies the continuity andcomplexity of knowledge diffusion process and provides methods and platform forthe research on knowledge diffusion. Based on SCI (Science Citation Index) citationnetworks, this thesis combs the connotation of knowledge diffusion, analyzesprocess and impact factors of knowledge diffusion, proposes the mechanisms andmodel of knowledge diffusion, measures knowledge diffusion level and puts forwardstrategies to overcome knowledge diffusion barriers. This study is helpful tounderstand the inherent rule of knowledge diffusion in basic research field, enrichesand perfects the study methods of knowledge diffusion, provides a theoretical basisfor raising knowledge diffusion level.Firstly, according to knowledge diffusion theory based on citation and citationnetwork analysis, this thesis analyzes the connotation of knowledge diffusion basedon SCI citation network including its motivation and characteristics as the basis ofthis study.Secondly, according to the pattern of manifestation of knowledge diffusion, thisthesis proposes two knowledge diffusion modes including four steps and twodirections of knowledge diffusion process. From the micro perspective of literaturepublished process, this thesis analyzes point pattern, chain pattern and networkpattern knowledge diffusion process and then enlarges it to journal and authorperspectives to analyze knowledge diffusion process of journal and author levelcorresponding to that of paper level, and that of paper-journal-author collaborativeperspective. The constitution of knowledge diffusion system and the impact factorsof knowledge diffusion process are also analyzed.Thirdly, by selecting an actual knowledge diffusion process of a classic paperas research objective, this thesis analyzes the global and local characteristics of thecitation network, using complex theory and social network theory and networktopology parameters, and then proposes five knowledge diffusion mechenisms. Bymodifying BA network evolution model according to these mechenisms, the sourcemodel of knowledge diffusion is established. By mapping relation between1-modenetwork and2-mode network, the mapping model of knowledge diffusion isestablished. By combining the two models, muti-agents synergy model is established.Forthly, by decomposing knowledge diffusion level to speed dimension andintensity dimension, a two-dimension knowledge diffusion measurement system isestablished. This thesis takes path as an important impact factor of knowledgediffusion level. With bibliometric index, by assigning citation delay as the arcs’weight of paper citation network, measurement models under overall, individual andmain path perspectives are established. According to social network theory, themeasurement model of intensity is established. An empirical research on thepublication delay and language barrier obstacles to knowledge diffusion is carriedon. Finally, according to the research above, this thesis proposes some strategies toenhance knowledge diffusion level accordance with Chinese national conditions anddevelopment status of science and technology based on connotation and impactfactor of knowledge diffusion, process of knowledge diffusion and mechanisms andmeasurement methods of knowledge diffusion respectively.
