New Campus Design Based On The Campus Gene Prototype

Since the last century, the higher education of our country has experienced a period of rapid development. Many universities have to open up new campus to deal with the problem such as the shortage of campus space and the teaching resources bringing by the rapid enrollment. Through the research of design and completion of new campus construction, I found that such mode of large-scale construction brings a series of problems like the convergence of campus architecture, the loss of features space and the weakness of place spirit. The most direct reason is the fracture of cultural heritage in new campus. As a result, we cited the methodology of architecture typology, hope to find a solution to the loss of spatial characteristics and the fracture of cultural heritage from the perspective of architecture prototype.First of all, we propose the concept of genetic prototype based on the prototype theory. Through the traceability research of university space, we extracted four kinds of genes prototype including the spatial structure prototype, the space imagery prototype, the material prototypes and the semantics prototype. Secondly, the paper combines a lot of summarization and compilation of good examples at home and abroad to expound the genes prototype is how to translate into a new campus space that has a sense of history, regional and morphological characteristics. Finally, the paper presents a design strategy and tactics of new campus based on the optimization and reconstruction of prototype, and apply it to an actual project that I have been participated in.
