The concept of process banking is derived from bank reengineering. Although business process reengineering is not started in finance, and its theoretical and pragmatic development in finance lags far behind in other industries, the information development, internationalization and liberalization of finance, the diversification of client need have all urged international banks to start constructing process banking. Therefore, process banking has matured internationally. Since Liu Mingkang, Chairman of China Banking Regulatory Commission brought up the concept of process banking, commercial banks in China have responded quickly by initializing the construction of process banking. However, no successful case of process banking is now available in China. Neither the regulatory authorities nor commercial banks have a clear awareness of how process banking can be developed in the country. The first chapter introduces how process banking is developed in both domestic and international commercial banks and then gives the significance of building process banking for commercial banks. The second chapter describes theories of intensive management, process reengineering, process banking, lean production, and six-sigma management, and then points out that commercial banks in China need to improve themselves in corporate culture, process, staff, equipment, technology and so on in order to build first class process banking. The third chapter focuses on the advantage process banking could bring to domestic commercial banks. The fourth and fifth chapter discuss difficulties that might arise while building process banking. Using Bank C as an example, the thesis finally suggests using image, work flow and image segmentation to design counter business reengineering. Combing the problems and solutions existing in business reengineering of Bank C’s operation center, the thesis also discusses the path and strategy of business reengineering of commercial banks, therefore it provides suggestions on business process management renovations to domestic commercial banks.
