With the rapid development of network, an increasing number of online bookstores have been stepping into public’s eyesight. Some e-commerce platforms,like Dangdang, Jingdong and Amazon, have been attracting customer’s attention due to their low-cost strategy,as well as discount policy and perfect service system. As a result, they are taking up the majority of the books market, which leads to the gradual disappearance of the real bookstores. But we can see that some real stores are still existing though the time is tough enough for them and they sometimes have become a landmark in cities. Taking on the responsibility of creating a living space of urban culture, real bookstores provide a physical space for public’s communications, as well as becoming the carrier of urban memories.The development of bookstores and the construction of urban culture are closely related to each other, as well as existing with each other. On the background of building a cultured city, studying bookstores and urban city, along with the internal relationship between the two, has recently become a significant aspect of the study of the modern book industry, which also gives a reference for future’s development of real bookstore.As a city’s important culture space, what bookstores provide is not only a real place where we can read, but also a possibility to imagine culturally and interact publicly. Therefore, based on the Space Theory, this essay focuses on researching the current living status and their developing process of China’s most representative real bookstores through analyzing the construction of the tangible real space and shapeless mental culture space. Additionally, this essay will also analyze the relationship between bookstore and urban culture through the writer’s deep feeling after practical survey.In the process of analyzing the three samples, the writer firstly talks about the real space construction of bookstores from the historical angle. Based on this, the writer argues about bookstores’ different culture space and concludes that due to their exact readers positioning, unique culture and its bringing spiritual enjoyment for citizens,these stores could finally achieve contrarian growth while existing along with a bunch of online bookstores. Meanwhile, the stores talked in this essay also succeeded in combining the advantage resources perfectly when developing featurely.Combining the different dimensions of the space division, we could find that bookstores, both as a cultural landmark building of the real space and a media to bond communities relationships, functioned better and better as a carrier of city memories. Therefore, the whole structure of these three bookstores seems to be similar, actually they state and develop by their own characteristics.Speaking from the city’s angle, culture is the essence of the development. Standing in the corner of the city, physical bookstores is providing an inexhaustible power for the city’s development. In the end of the article, it says that in this essay the writer begins with the relationships between culture and city, then combined with the analysis of current phenomenon "cultural desert", talks about the significance that culture contributes to the development of a city. Besides, the writer also expresses some hopes to the future development of book industry after analyzing the current situation.
