Wireless sensor network is a new information acquisition platform based on multi-disciplinary including wireless communications, Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems, system on a chip and low-power embedded technology, which is typically used to detect and monitor various types of objects in real-time monitoring area, and transmits the data to the sink node after gathering data from other sensor nodes. The operation of WSN is functionally affected by the selfish and/or malicious network nodes, and their resource constraints complicate the design of any WSN-based protocol and application. Rating nodes’ trust has been proven to be an effective solution to improve security, to support decision-making and to promote nodes collaboration in both wired and wireless networks. However, existing approaches of trust management emphasize mostly on trust modeling and ignore the overhead problems. This thesis presents a ring-based security energy-efficient clustering routing protocol for WSN,which makes improvements mainly from the following two aspects. First, we proposed a lightweight and dependable trust evaluating approach for WSN. A lightweight trust decision-making scheme is proposed based on nodes’identities in the clustered WSN because it can facilitate energy-saving. Due to canceling feedback between cluster member(CMs) or between cluster heads(CHs), this approach can significantly improve system efficiency while reducing the effect of malicious node. A dependability-enhanced trust evaluating approach is defined for cooperations between CHs.This approach can effectively reduce networking consumption while reducing the effect of malicious, selfish, and faulty CHs. Second, In this thesis, a ring-based security clustering algorithm with LDTE is proposed, which divide the WSN field into concentric rings and build unequal size of clusters in different rings to balance the energy consumption between first ring and other rings meanwhile reduces the likelihood of a malicious node selected as a CH. A multi-hop routing algorithm based on trust is designed in order to avoid long-distance communications between cluster heads and the sink node, which prevents a malicious node to be the next-hop node, and it also effectively reduces the energy consumption of cluster heads. Finally, the thesis combines ring-based clustering algorithm with the inter-clusters routing algorithm to form an ring-baesd security energy-efficient cluster-routing protocol, referred to as RSECRP.This thesis gives a detailed description about RSECRP and carries out some simulation comparison experiments under the same scene between RSECRP and LEACH protocol in OMNet++network simulation platform. The results show that the clustering routing protocol not only provides robustness against malicious and selfish nodes and more reliable data delivery, sends more data to the sink node, but also balances the overall network energy consumption, delays dead time of the sensor node, under the premise of the sacrifice acceptable overhead.
