Safety is a very important proposition in front of power workers. Traditionaltraining methods in power system are unsatisfied due to power grid features such as highfatalness and unallowably breaking characteristic. With rapid development of computersimulation and virtual reality, virtual reality simulation technology provides a newapproach to electrical safety training.The status of current research on the basic theory of virtual reality technology, thedesign of the power safety simulated-training system, combined with the actual powerengineering, standardized operating procedures and typical power accidents areintroduced, and key technologies towards the system development are studied. The paperincludes the following parts:(1) The three-dimensional modeling technique and modeling tools in virtual realitytechnology are studied. The three-dimensional visualization processes includingvirtuality of real objects, the reality of virtual object and the after-process of computerfor the three-dimensional model are explored. Besides, the effects of model animationare achieved in the modeling software.(2) The reengineering of the Torque Game Engine of the system is studied. Thecombination of engine and modeling software is achieved. Furthermore, the model isoptimized by using the engine. The script program is the core tool for the engine, and theproject is completed by connecting the various parts of the engine through writing theinternal script. The characteristics of the script are shown by an example.(3) Taking into account the complex equipment and types of power system, a goodoverall scene effect is achieved at a quite fast speed by combining discrete models basedon the electrical connection features of virtual scenes, which lays a foundation fordeveloping the virtual environment for the system.(4) The completed virtual scene owns all the features of a virtual reality system. Ascan be seen, interaction is one of the three main characteristics of virtual reality as wellas one hallmark of the virtual reality system. The man-machine interaction is discussed,with some key technologies analyzed, and the virtual collision detection upon electricalequipments is study. Furthermore, a method utilizing bounding sphere algorithm andAABB bounding box algorithm are employed in the detection in terms of thecharacteristics of the project.(5) The main content and design of the power safety simulated-training system arestudied and the system is divided into standardized job training modules and typical case analysis module. Instances of the two modules are given at the same time.Power safety simulated-training system based on virtual reality technology is apower production training system combining the characteristics of entertainment,interactive and practicability. Entertainment and interactive features of the systemimprove the interest of the staff to participate trainings, the characteristic of highemulation enhances the training effect, while the pure software greatly saves the trainingcosts.
