Image-based virtual reality technology is a hotspot of virtual reality research. Compared with virtual reality systems realized by computer graphics, the virtual scene built using the technology is independent of scene complexity and has the advantages of high painting quality, strong image reality sense and rapid speed, so the technology causes many researchers' attentionThis paper studies a constructing model for image-based virtual scene and realizing technology for walkthrough system.First of all, the paper constructs a comparatively reasonable and flexibly operable four dimensions virtual scene model. This model organically combines various virtual objects and forms a virtual scene having features similar to real world and can walk through.The paper realizes many significant scheduling algorithms mainly including rapid panorama reflection, intelligent virtual objects prediction and memory schedule in virtual walkthrough system. The scheduling algorithms can fully use current resources of a computer and reasonably schedule virtual objects to meet smooth and un-delayed walking through.The paper designs a good opening and expandable virtual walkthrough system. This walkthrough system applies object oriented design concept and is driven by user instructions and realizes many walkthrough effects such as glance, gradually approach and distance, and transition among different viewpoints.Finally, based on before-mentioned research, the paper develops two tools of a virtual reality research system named as VRDK which is a virtual reality development kit. The two tools offer a whole virtual scene editor and an explorer which can walk through in scene.
