Optical fiber communication becomes the main means of transmission in the moderninformation network because of the transmission capacity and rate of communicationnetwork continues to expand and improve. The optical transceiver with the conversionfunction of optical/electrical and electrical/optical plays a very important role in opticalfiber communication system, and the demand of optical transceiver modules increased byorders of magnitude. High-speed40Gbit/s and100Gbit/s have become the focus ofoperators, but the technology of10Gbit/s communication system is still mainstream one.The transceiver with standard-based spectral density waves becomes essential part inmodules.10Gbit/s XFP(10Gigabit Small Form Factor Pluggable Transceiver Module)module for its low price, small structure, wide applications, has become the mainstreamproducts of10Gbit/s optical modules.In this paper, there is a research of10Gbit/s XFP low cost optical modules with thecompatibility of40km and80km, given the design ideas of it through studying theprinciple of optical module态principle of digital diagnostic and the hardware design of themodules. At first, I introduced the principle of XFP optical modules, the key technologiesof transmitting and receiving part, including the technology of laser driving, themodulation of laser, equalization, clock and data recovery technology, temperature controlcircuit and APD boost circuit. And then a detailed design is given to describe the wholehardware circuit, analyzing the main circuit of transmitter, receiver and digital diagnostic,the thermal effect of the module, RF parts and dispersion, and so on.This design uses the main chip which is integrated CDR(Clock and Data Recovery),limiting amplifier and the driver, it is not only reduce the count of components, but alsoreduce the production process to meet a low-cost objective.In order to verify the performance of the module, this article described several testprograms of important parameters. Testing results show that, eye diagrams, Tx_Power,Extinciton ratio and receive sensitivity are meet the requirements of8077i.
