With the advent of information society, the requirement of communication system capability, transmission speed and service quality become more high, the communication network become more and more huge, the job of management communication network become day-by-day complex. People press for make use of intelligent performance monitor technology in the communications system. The digital diagnosis function of optical transceiver module provided one low cost performance monitor method. By digital diagnosis function of optical transceiver module, the network management unit may real time monitor the temperature, power supply, bias current, transmit power and receive power of optical transceiver module. Measuring of these parameters will help management unit forecast the fault and find the fault position of optical link. By forecast the fault, the technicians can displace the unit that maybe invalidation, the expense of maybe invalidation is less. By malfunction orientation, the technicians can find the fault position of optical link in a short time, the time of repair become shorter. The use of optical transceiver with digital diagnosis function simplifies the maintenance work and enhances the reliability of communications system.The paper is under the background of "2.5G small form factor pluggable optical transceiver module with digital diagnosis function", which is the project of WuHan huagong genuine optical Technology Co, Ltd. It introduces the constitutes, principle, of the main parts of optical transceiver, introduces the performance and design technology of these integrate circuit which be used in the project. Analyse the technology by which the laser coupling with the laser driver, the pluggable technology of small form factor optical transceiver, analyse the auto power control and auto temperature control circuit. The digital diagnosis and monitor technology is the importance of the paper, the basic theory of design an optical transceiver with digital diagnosis function will be introduced firstly, which includes the I2C bus technology and the SFF-8472 agreement. The host communication with the optical transceiver by the I2C bus technology, the SFF-8472 agreement defines the technology requirement and design criterion of design an optical transceiver with digital diagnosis function. Then, the concretely design project be given, the detailed circuit design scheme, work process and circuit parameter will be introduced, too. In the end, the article introduce the test technology of optical transceiver with digital diagnosis function, which include two parts: the first part is test technology of general optical and electrical performance, such as the optical power, extinction ratio, optical eye and receiver sensitivity, the first part analys the cause and resolve method of familiar low quality optical eye too;The second part is the test technology of digital diagnosis and monitor function that include the test system circuit design, monitor and calibration program operate method introduction.
