Our Internet broadband users have reached 9162.9 million and the reform of telecommunications market has been completed till May 2009. The implementation of our proprietary intellectual property rights'TD-SCDMA technology standard is the intrinsic motivation of telecommunications industry's another spanning development. To meet the development of broadband Internet and value-added business, miniature hot plug's optical transceiver module which is also called MINI - GBIC module is the core element of access network. As the second-generation technology of GBIC, SFX mainly includes the encapsulation solution of SFP/SFF, which is an innovation on the interface technology of optical-fiber network. It adopts the advanced precision optics and circuit integrated technology and its size is only half of the common full-duplex SC(1×9)optical transceiver module. SFP module also supports the online hot plug function, namely, the module can connect or disconnect equipment while it needn't cut off power so as to make the system upgrade and maintenance operation without power on; SFF module has the advantages of low cost with keeping the advantages of SFP module's small size. SFP/SFF light transceiver module in the design index obeys the coupling efficiency of optical-fibre channel, and also obeys the multi-source agreement of SFP MSA and SFF-8472.This thesis aims to develop SFP partial port module (OLT) and user side module (ONU) which can be suitable for the highest data transfer rate for the 2.7 Gbps in GE - PON system. The module meets the need of output average light power and extinction ratio which is a provision in GE-PON ITU-T G.984. In the design process this thesis uses the FP laser which is mature technology, low cost and laser driver chip, amplify integration chip which are made by Maxim Integrated Products to complete the design. In the module it uses the integration technology of Transmit Optical Subassembly (TOSA) and Optical preferred Subassembly (ROSA) which is provided by Xponent Photonics so as to meet the design in size and performance of ITU-T G.984.
