With the development of the national economy and people’s living standard, moreand more people choose to travel as a way of entertainment. Tourism industry isbooming, while there are some problems, such as, seasonal imbalance between supplyand demand of the guide, tour guide internationalization. And much more, people aremore like self-help travel. In such a demand, electronic guide system appeared.At present, Electronic guide system has developed to the navigational guide systemusing satellite positioning technology and wireless communication technology. In thesis,a navigational guide system was proposed, which is based on ARM11S3C6410hardware platform, embedded Linux software platform, and the GPS satellite navigationtechnology. The system mainly involves five sections, GPS satellite navigation, designof ARM-based hardware platform, build of Linux-based embedded systems, design ofthe embedded software and the monitoring center.GPS navigation system consists of space constellation, the ground control and theuser equipment. GPS positioning principle is based on the distance of statellites to userequipment, and the distance is calculated by the signal propagation. In this thesis, weuse integrate GPS module, which was based on SiRF Star III GPS chip. The chip waswidely used in navigator.Hardware platform design is focused on S3C6410peripheral circuit, mainly includepower management circuits, SD card interface, the audio interface, serial interface, LCDand touch screen interface, etc. The GPS, GPRS, and Wi-Fi modules, adopt theready-made integration module. GPS and GPRS modules connected with S3C6410viathe serial port, Wi-Fi module via SDIO.The building of embedded Linux system was consist of four steps, stablishment of adevelopment environment, the bootloader porting, Linux kernel porting, and root filesystem building. Development host system is Ubuntu, cross-compiler is arm-linux-gcc4.3.2, bootloader is U-boot, Linux kernel is3.0.1, and the root file system is build basedon BusyBox. Finally, bootloader, kernel and the root file system were made into imageand burn to Flash.Software desing of the electronic guide device is mainly refer to serial port programming in Linux. Software receives data from the GPS module using serial port.And then, display information with the embedded GUI--Qt/Embedded. The embeddedGIS are based on Google Static Maps API. In this thesis, two examples of Google StaticMaps API was demonstrated using Huangshan Guangming Ding position as parameters.Software of monitoring center was developed in Windows platform using MFCframework. It was mainly consisting of GPS terminal data centers, tourist registration,GPS terminal tracking, and security warning and real-time information dissemination.
