With the reform and opening up, China made great progress in economic development and people’s living standard improved a lot. To improve people’s livelihood, the government has released many relating policies. On the one hand, given material wealth is adequate, people begin to pay more attention to life quality, and physical and mental health; on the other hand, as the TV technology is increasingly updated, the audiences need more than information at home and abroad, they are having diversified demands. Under such a social background and cultural context, life service TV program are increasingly favored by more audiences. Therefore, research and analysis on the status quo and development of life service TV program in China may have guiding significance as how to improve the audiences’ quality of life and well-being index.This dissertation consists of four parts. The first part introduces the development process of life service TV program as a whole, clarifies the definition of life service TV program and classifies the life service TV program from the perspective of the nature of the programs. The second part, on the basis of classification, studies the status quo of life service TV program in terms of program patterns and contents and philosophy. The third part summarizes the drawbacks of life service TV program in its development, including information resource waste, reduced service functions, ignoring the needs of the audiences, and communicating false information. The fourth part puts forward some suggestions for improving life service TV program in China. More efforts should be threw into improve program originality and planning from the perspectives of family, society and region; program packaging and marketing should be improved from the aspects of program specialization, differentiation and brand strength; when improving cultural quality, the TV people should raise their professional ethics and enrich knowledge assets, and uphold the service philosophy of ’people-oriented’; at last, the life service TV program should become service, commerce, enjoyment and practicability-oriented so as to guide rational consumption and improve cultural taste.
