Traditional Automatic Test System (ATS) software platform is developed based onthe instrument, so it usually resulted in the poor versatility of the ATS which mainlyreflected in two aspects: TPS is non-portable and instruments can not be exchanged, andthus greatly increased the ATS’s development and maintenance costs. According to thissituation, the industry put forward the concept of signal-oriented ATS, try to solve theproblem from standardizing the software platform architecture and the test resource’sinformation. At the same time, the propose of IEEE Std1226(ABBET), IEEE Std1641(STD), IEEE Std1671(ATML) and IVI instrument drivers specification make thesignal-oriented ATS’s implementation become feasible.This paper analyzes the basic reason which lead to the ATS’s poor versatility,thenaccording to the ABBET standard designed the signal-oriented ATS software platform’sframework, and proposed two key technologies to achieve the signal-oriented test: oneis by referencing the STD standard and IVI instrument drivers specification to solve theproblem of instruments can not be interchanged, the other is by referencing the ATMLstandard to standardize test resources’s description to solve the TPS’s portabilityproblem.With deeply studies to the signal-oriented ATS software platform, the author’swork is mainly focused on the following two points:1)Standardize the description of the test resources is the basis for implementing theTPS’s portability and the instrument’s interchangeability. In addition, it also providesthe necessary information for the test program’s execution. Thus according to theproject requirements, developed a new ATS modeling tools based on the ATML standard,by providing a friendly man-machine interface to help test engineer quickly describingthe ATS, and saved the modeling information in XML format files.2) The key of signal-oriented test is virtual resource management, after deeplystudied the mechanism of the virtual resource management, according to the softwareplatform framework and system modeling result, author designed a runtime servicemodule function and then verified the feasibility of real-time resources allocation. Because domestic research in signal-oriented ATS still started too late, so there arevery few mature signal-oriented ATS software platform productions in the market. TheATS modeling tool and run-time resources allocation scheme proposed in this paperprovides a valuable reference for ATS software platform research, also it has a certainpractical value.
