As the most dynamic and critical part of TV communication, Chinese TV play of various themes; styles and types has experienced remarkable achievements in last thirty years since China’s Reform and Opening up policy. There is no exaggeration to say that China is the country with the most TV play consumption quantity as well as the most TV play consumers. The historical starting point of TV play of Uyghur theme is the successful broadcast of THREE YOUNG MEN by Xinjiang TV station in1984and so far, there are more than two hundred TV plays of Uyghur theme. The rapid development of Chinese TV play industry provided a favorable environment for TV play of Uyghur theme to exist and to develop. While, the TV play of Uyghur theme, with its advantage of theme, created unique TV play genre as well as narrative mode and enriched China’s TV play industry.In This thesis, I chose TV play of Uyghur theme as research object and analyzed its type of theme; its function of communication and its communication environment from the perspective of communication studies. By doing this, I want to propose some valuable suggestion about how to better develop the TV play of Uyghur theme and hopefully, this may help TV play of Uyghur theme to take foot in the local market and eventually, reach out to the world. This thesis consists of six chapters. In the first chapter, I stated the reason why I do this study and the relevant research dynamic as well as my research method. Second chapter is the overview of TV play of Uyghur theme and in this chapter, I will systemize the development history of TV play of Uyghur theme and introduce some creation units of TV play of Uyghur theme. This will be the foreshadowing of this research. In the third chapter, I will analyze the different types of TV play of Uyghur theme and will divide it into theme TV play; popular life TV play and historical TV play and study its differences. In the fourth chapter, I will try to analyze the function of communication of TV play of Uyghur theme and the function includes agenda setting function; cultural inheritage function and recreational function. Base on the analysis in previous chapter, I will also analyze the communication of different types of TV play of Uyghur theme in this chapter. In the fifth chapter, I will analyze the communication environment of TV play of Uyghur theme. From the macro perspective, communication environment can be divided into political environment; cultural environment and marketing environment. Through studying these three environments, I will analyze the opportunities and challenges faced by TV play of Uyghur theme under the background of globalization. In the sixth chapter, based on the above study and analysis, I will propose some helpful suggestions in order to promote TV play of Uyghur theme.The core idea of this thesis is to study TV play of Uyghur theme from the perspective of communication studies and discuss development strategy of TV play of Uyghur theme and deliberate on how to achieve cultural transmission. TV play of Uyghur theme should firstly improve the creative concept and pattern, elevate cultural taste and produce high quality works that can reflect the real social life and touch the spiritual world of minority ethnic groups. Secondly, to make good use of local cultural resource of Xinjiang and to establish influential TV play cultural brand. What’s more, to absorb and draw lesson from the successful experience of other provinces and strengthen the cooperation between TV play production units from other provinces. In the meantime, to continuously promote the external communication and this is also an important measure to achieve effective communication.
