Research On Integration Of Digital Resources In The Knowledge Supply Chain

Digital resources meet explosive growth at home and abroad because of thedevelopment of digital information technology. However, customers are not satisfiedwith digital resource service. The main reasons are due to the following aspects: first,existence of information silos. As there’s a great variety of digital resources, and thedatabases which are relied on digital resource are also rich in variety, so that theoverlapping and redundancy of all types of resource are serious, and it’s harmful toeffective utility of resources. Second, databases are dispersive and there’s no materialrelation among them, so that databases can’t reflect the inherent relevance of digitalresources really, and customers’ individual demand for information can’t be metefficaciously. Furthermore, duplication of similar projects, wasting of resources andsystem segmentation are serious of our country’s digital resources exploitationprojects, and the digital resources haven’t been integration maximization. Thus,digital resources are in dire need of effective integration.On the current situation in China, the status quo of digital resources isn’toptimistic. The digital resources integration still faces the following defects: strategyis unreasonable, input power is insufficient, communication mechanism has somesetbacks, rate of idle resources is high, the involved layer of integration is lower,search limitations is large after integration, resources of human talents and technicalresource are omitted, and the resource type which can be used to be integrated isfewer and son on. To our delight, university libraries have made superior progress indigital resources integration, which is this thesis’s research subject. But contentsupplier (publishing houses, newspaper offices and magazine offices) and technologyprovider (database companies, telecom operators and terminal equipment companies)which are two major groups involved in digital content and digital technology madeinferior progress in digital resources integration.The orthodox view is that expectation effect can be obtained by docking serviceplatform in the ordinary way. But making a general survey of present circumstances,customers’ diverse needs can’t be met by this way. Therefore, the thesis puts forwardthe digital resources integration of knowledge supply chain. By this way, we are ableto understand customers’ diverse needs deeply and integrate all available resourcesfrom the viewpoint of integrators. And there’s deeper realistic meaning for achievingthe goal. Knowledge supply chain is chosen as the thesis’s breakthrough point, and thethesis is combined with the theory of knowledge supply chain, first, putting forwardthe subjects of knowledge supply chain involved in the thesis, and then analyzing thedistribution situation, integration status and open questions of digital resourcesintegration in our country at present time. Next, analyzing the necessity of digitalresources integration involved in knowledge supply chain from the viewpoint ofdigital resources themselves, technology and customers. At last, putting forward thevarious strategies of digital resources integration among libraries, and betweenlibraries and content suppliers&technology providers from the viewpoint of libraryand combined with the theory of knowledge supply chain.
