The Concept map is a tool for knowledge representation. Novak, Professor ofCornell University in the1960s last century, led the team to carry out a period of12years of education and research. The team adopted audio teaching method for studentsto learn science concepts, and then made interviews with students and made note ofthe learning results. In the process of arranging interview scripts, the staff found themap with nodes, connections was available to show the scientific concept studentsmastered. It was easy to get to know the changes of students’ knowledge bycomparing the maps of different learning stages. So the Concept map was born. SoonNovak team paid attention to Ausubel’s Meaningful Learning Theory which is goodto explain the educational function of the Concept map theoretically. Ausubel Theoryemphasized that the children’s learning should be meaningful and the knowledgelearned previously would affect the later learning. Therefore it provides a strongtheoretical foundation and vitality to Concept map. Because of Ausubel’stheory,Concept map was spreaded in North American education circles and waspopular in globe. In the1990s,with the development of computer technology and thepopularity of the Internet, the society has entered the information age. The researcherhave to face the tremendous information every day. How to manage to order andintegrate them for economy has become the focuses. Although the Concept maps wasborn in the field of education, it has been spreaded to various areas of socialproduction because of its powerful knowledge management capability. The library isa carrier of human culture. Its mission is ordering and transferring the informationflow of social literature. Therefore, in the library knowledge management, theintroduction of the Concept map tool is full of practical significance.This article is consisted of five chapters, each part is as follows:ChapterⅠ.The introduction. This chapter will clarify the background of thissubject, researching significance, research status of home and abroad, innovation andweaknesses of the thesis and researching thought and method. ChapterⅡ.Theoverview of Concept map. This chapter will be divided into three parts and descriptthe origin and development of the Concept map,the connotation and characteristics ofConcept map and the theoretical basis. Chapter Ⅲ. Concept map construction. Thischapter will eloborate the construction of Concept map from the following threepoints:the essential principles of the construction; the main method and the softwaretool.Chapter Ⅳ. The applicationof Concept map in the library knowledgemanagement. This chapter will be divided into four sections, respectively, elaboratethe application of Concept map in knowledge organization, knowledge retrieval,knowledge services and knowledge evaluation in the library. Chapter Ⅴ.Summaryand Outlook. This chapter summarizes the full-text of this thesis and offer outlook ofthe Concept map.
