With the acceleration of the process of road economic globalization,highwayconstructions enter a rapid development in China. Due to the influence of Chinatraditional concept of transportation called “maintenance ignoring and constructionrecognition”, and it becomes a common scene that being maintained after demolished orbeing repaired instead of maintenance, resulting in a vicious circle for road maintenancein China. There are more and more maintenance information of roads and bridges due tothe increasing road mileage, so it raises taller requirement for modern maintenancemanagement system, meanwhile, the demands upon service and management of the system alsoincrease. It has become the distinct characteristic of modern maintenance management ofroads which is informationize, networked and intelligentialize.Modern maintenance management system of roads should combine the computersstrong function with the modern idea of management, which can provide large andaccurate information in time, and can help maintenance management department andthe public understand the related transportation information. As the WebGIS technologymatures, it provided the possibility to achieve this aim. In this paper we present amaintenance management experimental system based on WebGIS with.NETenvironment and ArcGIS Server platform, taking the data of Banan distict in ChongqingMunicipality for an example. The main points are as follows:①Discussed development of the road maintenance management system at homeand abroad, and presents that map visualization, data sharing and intelligentize will bethe developing trend of road maintenance management system; And the criticaltechnique is expatiated in detail for ArcGIS Server Web ADF platform used in thispaper.②Based on analyzing and comparing the existing road maintenance managementsystem in Banan distict, we designed and determined that experimental system tookWebGIS for construction platform, ArcGIS Server for publish platform, Geodatabaseand SQL Server for database, and under the Visual Studio2005.NET developmentenvironment.③Researched the establishment and design of database of experimental system,system data consists of attribute data and spatial data, including basic attributeinformation, related pavement maintenance data and road technical data, et al. Meanwhile, the constitution and entry operation of those data is illustrated in detail.④Developed the prototype maintenance system, taking the data of Banan distict inChongqing Municipality for an example. The system realized functions of display basedon browser, query, data update, statistic analysis, solution of maintenance plans, exportof text files dialog,,management of maintenance information, creating thematic mapand so on, and spatial and attribute data are able to dynamic display.
